STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Tuesday is Veterans Day. It’s a day the nation pauses to remember all U.S. military veterans.
Though it was called Armistice Day in 1919 and created to commemorate the end of World War I, it was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all veterans.
In New York City, the annual Veterans Day Parade will take place today from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The parade route will run up Fifth Avenue, from 26th Street to 48th Street in Manhattan.
To mark the 250th anniversaries of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps and Navy, the parade will feature three Grand Marshals: former staff sergeant and Medal of Honor recipient Clinton Romesha; Marine veteran and homeless veterans’ advocate Stephen Peck; and NASA Astronaut and retired U.S. Navy Captain Sunita “Suni” Williams.
