India’s leading tennis singles player Sumit Nagal has claimed that his visa application for China was rejected without explanation, just days before he was scheduled to compete in the Australian Open Asia-Pacific Wildcard Play-off, a qualifying event for the 2026 Australian Open.

The annual tournament sees top players from the Asia-Pacific region compete for a coveted Australian Open main draw wildcard and is set to take place in Chengdu (China) from November 24 to 29, 2025.

In a post on social media tagging China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, Nagal sought urgent assistance in resolving the matter.
