An elderly man who needed one-to-one care died after falling from a hospital trolley when he was left alone in a corridor all night.

Retired farmer Harry Dickinson was admitted to Chorley and South Ribble District Hospital on December 18, 2024. The 90-year-old was on blood thinners and was bleeding from his mouth which prompted staff at Springfield Nursing Home to arrange for him to go to A&E .

Due to the hospital being "extremely busy", Harry, who lived in Coppull, Lancashire, was placed on a trolley and left unattended in a corridor overnight. This was despite his care plan requiring him to have one-to-one care at all times.

The next morning, while Harry was unattended, he became increasingly agitated and fell from the trolley.
