CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) - Tensions were high between several Canton community members and a few on the city council during Monday night’s regular meeting.
The council voted 8 to 2 to suspend public comment during its regular meetings.
“It’s not that you won’t be able to speak; this is just a channel and a proper way you’ll have to go about handling,” Councilmember Chris Smith said.
The council said this portion of the meeting has gotten out of hand.
Councilmember John Mariol said he and his fellow members have faced false accusations and threats from some community members.
“Recently, we have seen threats to release the social security numbers of city employees, blackmailing the city, and now the FBI is involved,” Mariol said.
