A Ryanair flight to Tenerife has been forced to divert after the pilot declared a mid-air emergency. ‌

Flight FR2969 set off from Edinburgh at 6am on Tuesday and was due to land at the holiday destination shortly before 11am. ‌

However, according to flight tracking website FlightRadar24, the aircraft diverted after squawking a 7700 code. This signals a general emergency onboard. ‌

The pilot declared the emergency during the flight's descent over the Celtic Sea and passengers were diverted back to Shannon Airport in Ireland, where it landed shortly before 9am.

Around an hour later the plane took off again heading towards the Canary Islands. It is due to land in Tenerife at around 1.25pm. ‌
