Adelaide radio personality Leon Byner, a prominent voice for South Australians for decades, has died at the age of 77 after a battle with acute leukemia.
Byner, who retired from broadcasting three years ago, spent nearly 60 years on the airwaves.
Byner's career began after moving to Adelaide from Melbourne in the 1960s, and he was known for his long tenure on 5AA, where he hosted the morning show for 23 years.
"The moment he sat down behind the microphone, boom, away he went because that's where he belonged," former colleague Jeremy Courdeaux.
Tributes have flowed in for the veteran broadcaster, including from the prime minister.
"It was a pleasure to be a regular guest on his show over many years and an honour to count him as a friend," Anthony Albanese said.
