Every year, many non-resident Indians (NRIs) who receive pensions from the Indian government or bank schemes are required to provide a Life Certificate, attesting to their continued eligibility for pension benefits.
This verification, often referred to as the Life Certificate or Digital Life Certificate (DLC), is a crucial and mandatory step in ensuring that pension payments are only made to qualified recipients, preventing fraud and abuse.
In India, nearly one crore families can be categorised as pensioners.
Using Jeevan Pramaan, a biometric system based on Aadhaar, the government has digitised this procedure. This removes the need for in-person visits, providing senior persons with a practical and safe means of confirming their identity and guaranteeing continuous pension payments.
