Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 have seen a record voter turnout of 67.14% in the second and final phase of polling, marking the highest in the state's history. This election is viewed as a crucial test for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who has been in power for a long time. The contest is primarily between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the BJP and JD(U), and the Mahagathbandhan, which includes the RJD and Congress. Other parties like Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM and Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj are also in the fray, adding to the competition.
The first phase of voting had already set a high bar with a turnout of 64.66%. Polling for the second phase took place across 122 constituencies, with the Election Commission reporting a turnout of 60.4% by 3 PM. The highest turnout was in Kishanganj district at 66.1%, while Nawada recorded the lowest at 53.17%. Voting began at 7 AM and concluded at 5 PM, with security heightened due to recent incidents in the capital.
Political leaders have campaigned vigorously, aiming to connect with voters on various issues. The exit polls, which gauge voter sentiment after polling, are expected to be released after 6:30 PM, following the conclusion of voting. These polls are not official results and can vary from the final count, which will take place on November 14, 2025.
In the previous assembly elections, the NDA won 66 seats while the Mahagathbandhan secured 49. Key candidates this time include power minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav and former Deputy Chief Minister Renu Devi. The outcome of this election will be pivotal in determining the political landscape of Bihar for the coming years.
