CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - The city of Carbondale and Southern Illinois University will recognize Veterans Day with a ceremony at the flagpole on Tuesday, November 11.
They say the 11 a.m. ceremony will be at the flagpole at South Normal Avenue and West Grand Avenue on the SIU campus.
It’ll include a proclamation from Carbondale Mayor Carolin Harvey; remarks by Tom Harness, a veteran and SIU alumnus; and the laying of the wreath with playing tamps by the SIU Trumpet Studio.
According SIU, if the federal government is fully open, SIU Air Force and Army ROTC cadets will participate in a vigil at the flagpole from 6 a.m. until noon, with change of guards every 15 minutes.
