(WKYT) - In the lead-up to America turning 250 years old, we are looking back every day at ‘This Day In History.’
On this day we honor our nation’s veterans.
On Nov. 11, 1918, World War I ended when the Allied Powers and Germany signed an armistice document.
The tradition began in 1919, when President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Nov. 11 as the first commemoration of “Armistice Day.”
In 1954, after World War II and the Korean War, Congress amended the act, changing “armistice” to “veterans.”
