As the Trump Administration's tariff and immigration war rages on, Canadians have voted with their feet in terms of boycotting their neighbors to the South. According to The Travel Health Insurance Association of Canada's (THIA) 2025 Winter Smart Traveller Survey , just 26% of Canadians are likely to go to the U.S., citing cost concerns as well as political tensions with the U.S.
This has been echoed by Statistics Canada , which shared that air travel in July from Canada to the U.S. was down 26%. This boycott has hit the U.S. hard, as Canadians are the largest source of visitors to the U.S. 20.2 million Canadians visited the U.S. in 2024 and spent over $20 billion, according to the U.S. Travel Association . Some Canadians are also reported to be selling their vacation properties
