CLEVELAND, Ohio – A new mural at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport pays tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen, the pioneering African American military pilots in World War II.
The large-scale work, created in partnership with the North Coast Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, was designed by Linear Creative and features the art of students from Cleveland School of the Arts .
The two-part exhibit is located in the airport’s lower-level baggage claim area and features a 23-foot-by-10-foot mural alongside two pillars.
The art tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, who helped pave the way for a desegregated military in the late 1940s. The work features portraits of local pilots as well as archival photography from the North Coast Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen.
