Eighteen people were taken to the hospital after a mobile lounge struck a dock at the airport near Washington, DC, according to officials.

On Monday, Nov. 10, at around 4:30 p.m. local time, the mobile lounge was transporting passengers at Dulles International Airport in Virginia when it struck a dock as it pulled up to a building, according to a statement the airport emailed to USA TODAY.

Passengers deboarded via stairs and were evaluated by Airport Authority Fire & Rescue personnel.

After the evaluation, the fire department took 18 people with non-life-threatening injuries to a local hospital.

The airport declined to comment on how many people were on board the mobile lounge when the crash occurred, whether anyone outside the mobile lounge was injured, or whether any of its employees were injured.

Mobile lounges, also called "people movers," are vehicles similar to buses used to transport people at an airport.

They are used for boarding or disembarking a plane, or for transporting people between terminal buildings at an airport.
