Oregon immigrant rights attorneys who have sued the federal government to ensure people detained by immigration authorities have access to attorneys will have a second chance in December to make their case.
The lawyers last month asked U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken to issue a temporary restraining order requiring that people held without warrants by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement be kept in Oregon for at least three days before being moved to long-term detention.
The goal was to make sure the government upholds people’s constitutional right to consult with a lawyer.
