CLINTON, Ill. (WCIA) -- DeWitt County law enforcement is seeing an uptick in crashes involving deer.
The county's Sheriff's Office said they had 10 reported crashes just over this last weekend. Sheriff Mike Walker said that this time of year, it's not unusual for them to see two or three crashes involving deer within a 24-hour time period.
As they start to move closer to the road as the temperatures drop, the sheriff has tips to help you stay safe on the road.
"Next thing you know, they're in front of you," Walker said. "Especially if at night or early in the morning, use your high beam, lights when there's no other oncoming traffic, and just slow down a little bit, and just be aware that this is the time of year that they're really moving."
