LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Nearly a week after a fatal UPS cargo airplane crash near Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, cleanup efforts are still underway, particularly in nearby creeks and waterways affected by fuel runoff.
Mayor Craig Greenberg said on Monday that a swift response from environmental crews helped prevent a larger disaster.
“MSD has been coordinating the cleanup here,” Greenberg said. “They have helped stop 30,000 gallons of oil from going into our groundwater.”
EPA reports crews have collected about 286,000 gallons of oil-water mix as of Nov. 10, with cleanup ongoing into the night to protect local ecosystems.
