McDonald's has returned the McRib sandwich to select restaurants regionally in select cities, with more getting the sandwich starting Nov. 17 for a limited time, the company said.

McDonald's is bringing the McRib sandwich back to its menu – in some markets.

The sandwich, which is beloved by many, is available, McDonald's said, in select restaurants regionally in cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle and St. Louis and more.

The announcement comes after the sandwich began appearing in some markets last week, as reported by the McRib Locator website.

Also coming back to the menu: McDonald's Holiday Pie, which returns to menus nationwide on Friday, Nov. 14.

When can I get a McRib?

Some folks can get a McRib now; restaurants with the sandwich currently include the cities listed by McDonald's including Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle and St. Louis. McDonald's recommends checking your local restaurants to check on availability.

What is the McRib?

The McRib is a pork patty, shaped to resemble a rack of ribs, and served on a bun with barbecue sauce, pickles and onions. So there's no rib bones involved; the McRib is made from pork, water, salt, dextrose and – this one wasn't on my bingo card – rosemary extract.

The McRib made its debut in Kansas City, Kansas in 1981 and became available nationwide the following year. McDonald's executive chef Rene Arend, who also created Chicken McNuggets in 1979, is credited with inventing the McRib, building on the developments in restructured meat for the military made by University of Nebraska professor Roger Mandigo.

McDonald's regularly returns the McRib to its menu since removing the sandwich as a permanent item in 2005. Reappearances came in 2020 and in 2022 for a supposed "farewell tour." The McRib subsequently returned to the menu in some locations in 2023 and nationwide last year.
