LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Nebraska running back Emmett Johnson has been named one of 13 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, given annually to the nation’s top collegiate player by the Maxwell Football Club.
Johnson is looking to become just the second Husker to ever win the honor, joining Mike Rozier, who claimed the award in 1983. Of this year’s 13 semifinalists, Johnson and Notre Dame’s Jeremiyah Love are the only two running backs on the list.
The sophomore standout has put together one of the most impressive seasons in college football, ranking second nationally in rushing yards (1,131) and leading the country with 1,431 total yards from scrimmage heading into Nebraska’s Nov. 22 matchup at Penn State .
