MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - After years of construction, Mishawaka Troop Town expects to welcome its first veteran residents later this year.
The housing community was built by veterans for veterans to address homelessness among those who served their country.
The project’s treasurer, Dennis Kovatch, and president, Jim Metherd, are both Army combat veterans.
“You know, it’s not hard to end up there even if you try to do the right things. And we want to get some veterans and have them become productive members of the community again,” Kovatch said.
Metherd said the project aims to tackle a larger problem facing veterans nationwide.
