Neil Young becoming an ‘Old Man’ on his 80th birthday isn’t passing by quietly.

An all-Canadian lineup of musicians will pay tribute to Canada’s beloved folk-rock singer-songwriter on Wednesday night at Massey Hall as he turns the big 8-0.

Jim Cuddy, 69, of Toronto’s Blue Rodeo fame, is thrilled to honour Young at the event — Young’s been invited but isn’t expected to show — especially since the only time Cuddy shared the stage with the Godfather of Grunge was at the 2005 Live 8 benefit concert in Barrie during an all-hands-on-deck version of Keep On Rockin’ in the Free World that went horribly wrong.

“It was a complete mess,” Cuddy tells the Sun with a laugh down the line from Moncton, N.B.
