The Birmingham breakfast was one of many Veterans Day events throughout metro Detroit, and the nation.

Hester Crawford is one of the millions of women who, during World War II, did what they could to "support our boys."

They remembered those who served by presenting a special award to a 105-year-old Rosie the Riveter, who was able to be there, and memorializing veterans who had died.

"We’ve all been touched by a veteran in some way," Peggy Goodwin, one of the breakfast organizers, said on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Community House of Birmingham. "We live in a time that we have to still remember freedom is not free, and to keep history alive."
