The federal government could reopen this week after a small group of Senate Democrats struck a deal with Republicans on Sunday and passed it on Monday, sending it to the House for final approval.

The deal, which garnered the support of eight Democrats , would fund the government through Jan. 30, 2026. It would also provide a full year's worth of funding for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) benefits. Plus, furloughed federal workers would receive back pay, and fired workers would be rehired. Advertisement
