WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) - Veterans were honored during a celebration held this morning at the Veterans Park in Beaufort County.
It began at 11 a.m. and included the presentation of colors, singing of the national anthem, and guest speakers voicing what the holiday means to them.
During the event, veterans announced their names, the branch of the military they served in, and received gifts.
“I think it is important because we wouldn’t be here to have all of the freedoms we have, or maybe even this country, if it weren’t for them,” said Betsy Hodges, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 president.
The annual celebration in the City of Washington has been held every Veterans Day for over 50 years.
