Police say one person is dead and four are injured after a residential apartment fire in Mississauga Tuesday.

Just before 1 p.m., officers received a call about a fire in a residential building in the area of North Service Road and Asta Drive, Peel police said in a post on social media.

The fire was extinguished early Tuesday afternoon, police said. One person was pronounced dead on the scene and four other people were taken to hospital with minor and moderate injuries, Peel paramedics told CBC Toronto.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Peel police said they don't have any information to suggest the fire was suspicious. Mississauga Fire was on the scene investigating, they said.

Police are asking people to avoid the area Tuesday afternoon.
