A 20-year-old man has died more than a month after being critically injured during a shootout with Richmond County deputies.

Dalyn Elder was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen announced in a statement. An autopsy has been scheduled, Bowen added.

Deputies responded at 12:44 a.m. Oct. 2 to an armed robbery at the BP gas station at 3011 Washington Road. While sweeping the area, a deputy spotted a running man, later identified as Elder, who matched a description of one of the robbers.

While Elder was not involved in the robbery, authorities believe he fled approaching officers because he was already wanted on 11 outstanding warrants .
