Tuesday, community leaders, veterans, and residents gathered at Veterans Circle in Collegedale to honor those who have served.

"We'll never forget the freedoms we have and the prices that are paid in each branch of the military," says retired Navy Captain Mickey McCamish.

In 1938, Armistice Day, later changed to Veterans Day, became a federal holiday following the aftermath of World War I. Now, communities across the country continue to honor the men and women who served.

Hamilton County Commissioner Jeff Eversole shares what this holiday means to him.

"Sometimes we think of our current veterans, we think of those who have passed," said Hamilton County Commissioner Jeff Eversole. "I want us also to note that we have future veterans out there and the future is the legacy that we leave."
