STORRS, Conn. — So far, so good for UConn's NCAA women's basketball championship defense.
The No. 1 Huskies (3-0) continued their dominance by drubbing Atlantic 10 opponent Loyola Chicago, 85-31, on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Gampel Pavilion.
UConn continued to play smothering defense, holding Loyola scoreless for 11 minutes and 35 seconds in the second half. The Huskies had 25 steals and scored 45 points off 36 Rambler turnovers.
But, even after beating their opponent by 50-plus points, UConn coach Geno Auriemma had notes.
"I'm not exactly thrilled with where we are offensively right now," Auriemma said. "So much of our offense is coming from our defense. I don't know that that's something that you're gonna be able to count on every night, getting 25 steals against people.
"Our defense has been the reason why we're doing what we're doing these first three games. ... I'd like to see us be a little more cohesive on the offense."
Three Huskies scored in double figures led by KK Arnold and Sarah Strong with 11 points each. Wisconsin senior transfer Serah Williams added 10 points.
Alex-Anne Bessette and Alexa Kinas had seven points each for Loyola (1-2).
