MEBANE, N.C. (WTVD) -- Buc-ee's has broken ground on its first location in North Carolina.

Chopper 11 flew over the site in Alamance County on Trollingwood-Hawfields Road in Mebane.

Our news gathering partner, the News and Observer , reports a tentative opening date in May 2027.

The travel center will be at exit 152 on I-85/40.

The 74,000 square foot center will be one of the largest in the country and include 120 gas pumps.

The closest Buc-ee's to us is on I-95 in Florence, South Carolina.
