STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Moments before a pre-trial hearing Wednesday for a former NYPD detective charged with DWI earlier this year in a crash on Staten Island, the case instead was resolved with a plea deal.

The defendant, Leonid Shatkin, 42, of Greenridge, was arrested May 11 after police said he crashed his Ford F-150 pickup truck into a pair of parked vehicles in Grant City. The incident occurred in the 122nd Precinct, where Shatkin was assigned. He was off-duty at the time.
