A local councillor in Perth’s northern suburbs has taken aim at the City of Wanneroo over a mosquito and midge outbreak that has residents on edge around Warradale Park in Landsdale.

After unprecedented rain over the past winter, the park has been left flooded with pools of stagnant water in its low-lying areas, creating ideal conditions for mosquitoes and midges to breed.

Locals say the bugs are wreaking havoc across the neighbourhood as a result.

Wanneroo councillor Hugh Nguyen said residents living around the area, including those in Landsdale, Darch and Madeley, were frustrated with the city’s “inadequate response” and were demanding an urgent solution to the problem.
