MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - Sixteen organizations that assist victims of domestic violence will receive additional financial support through a state-generated funding source, Gov. Kay Ivey announced Wednesday.
The shelters will collect shares of the state’s Domestic Violence Trust Fund, which is generated through a marriage recording fee and distributed to the agencies every quarter.
The Trust Fund was created by the Alabama Legislature in 2015 and endorsed by then Lt. Gov. Ivey, who continues to support the program and its assistance to victims of domestic violence.
Ivey awarded $105,757 to the Alabama Coalition Against Domestic Violence and $80,000 to the state Office of Prosecution Services from that fund. The ACADV monitors and provides training for the shelters while OPS investig
