BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — The Blount County Fire Protection District Board has faced multiple resignations just weeks after a letter was sent to county officials outlining issues with the subscription-based public utility fire department.
The information was confirmed by Amy Cowden, executive coordinator for the county's mayor's office. She said Mayor Ed Mitchell appointed two interim commissioners to serve until the nonprofit's board can act and make a recommendation after two of three commissioners resigned.
According to letters from the mayor's office, Tom Daffron and Jerry Phillips were appointed to fill the vacant seats.
According to the mayor, the board is unable to go through the proper procedure to appoint more commissioners because of the resignations.
