LANSING, Mich. (WNDU) - The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has gained a new way to make it easier on farmers to grow and sell potatoes.
According to our affiliate WILX , farmers usually ship potatoes to Canada, and part of that process is getting them tested for disease.
In past years, farmers would send their potatoes to North Dakota to be tested.
Now, that testing is right in Michigan with the opening of a new facility.
The MDARD facility has been offering free disease testing for Michigan potato growers.
The lab is only one of 10 in the country that can test for bacterial ring rot.
