NEWBURGH, Ind. (WFIE) - Happening tonight in Newburgh, the town council is giving the public a chance to share their thoughts about an increase in their sewage works rates.

A public hearing is being held tonight at the town hall meeting over proposed rate increases to the town’s sewage works.

The town is looking to increase costs to help cover improvements to the wastewater system.

The new plan would feature a new 4 million gallon water equalization tank that could store excess storm water until the current wastewater treatment plant could treat it.

A new facility would be installed upstream of the tank, and will have room for future growth.

These improvements would also ensure that the sewer department is compliant with current federal and state codes.
