BIG TIMBER — Susan Metcalf — rancher, county superintendent of schools, business woman and mother — says the Crazy Peak Boutique, her family’s downtown shop and eatery, could remain permanently closed in the wake of the death of her daughter, Brooke Bare.
Metcalf and Bare first opened the business in 2021. It was founded on the duo's love for cooking. The business gained a reputation for community involvement, supplying lunches to Big Timber schools for nearly a month during a staff shortage in 2024.
Bare died this past Friday at age 39 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings from injuries sustained in an Oct. 28 car accident on Lower Deer Creek Road/Four Creek Lane near the family ranch.
Metcalf maintains a cooking column in the Big Timber Pioneer. Her columns in the previous two edition
