OGLE COUNTY, Ill. — A woman who plead guilty to the murder of her 7-year-old son was given her prison sentence.
On Wednesday, Ogle County State's Attorney Mike Rock announced that 38-year-old Sarah Safranek of Oregon plead guilty to the charge of First-Degree Murder and was sentenced to 35 years in state prison.
The sentencing comes after Safranek was charged in April 2021 for the murder of her 7-year-old son, Nathaniel Burton. Burton died on Feb. 17, 2021, after Oregon Police said they responded to Burton's home after a report of him not breathing.
It was said the sentence will be served in full and will be followed by 3 years of mandatory supervised release.
