Mayor-elect Corey O’Connor will nominate Jason Lando to head the city’s police force, a department that has been plagued by a revolving door of leadership and dwindling ranks even as the city sees record-low violent crime numbers.
A longtime Pittsburgh Police commander, and the current chief in Frederick, Md., Chief Lando was among the three finalists born out of the nearly year-long national search commissioned by Mayor Ed Gainey’s administration.
Mr. O’Connor said late Wednesday that he would announce his nomination Thursday afternoon, and sources confirmed to the Post-Gazette late Wednesday evening that Chief Lando will get the nod.
