COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man who fatally shot his roommate during a dispute in north Columbus last year was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison, according to the county prosecutor.

According to Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Shayla Favor’s office, 39-year-old Brian Sias was given a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 21 years for the death of 29-year-old William Applegate.

Favor’s office said Sias was found guilty in August on two counts of murder and one count of felonious assault.

On May 16, 2024, officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the 1200 block of Manchester Avenue in North Linden on a report of a roommate dispute. On the way to the scene, officers were advised that a shooting had taken place at that location.
