A Holbrook police officer said his training helped him during a harrowing rescue when he pulled a driver from a burning pickup truck before it became engulfed in flames.
“It happened really, really fast,” Officer Jonathan O’Brien said in a phone interview on Tuesday.
O’Brien rescued the driver on Saturday after he allegedly slammed into two cars parked on South Franklin Street around 5:45 p.m., police said.
When O’Brien arrived, Douglas Silva Soares, 26, was trapped inside a white pickup truck that had caught fire.
A bystander initially tried to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher, but O’Brien saw that the fire was spreading rapidly and told a group of bystanders to move back for their safety, police said.
