A man who failed in an attempt to jump off a mountain near Squamish and deploy a parachute has been rescued.
According to Squamish Search and Rescue, team members were alerted on Tuesday evening that a BASE jumper had crashed into the side of Slhanay Mountain straight after takeoff.
BASE as an acronym for buildings, antennas, spans and earth. BASE jumpers hurl themselves off a fixed object and deploy a parachute to land safely.
“A team of 25 members responded and were guided to the launch site by a friend of the subject,” SSR stated on social media.
“Our rope rescue team located the individual perched on a small rock feature about 60 feet below the edge — wet, cold, but conscious.”
