MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WSAZ) - It was a back and forth night for the Sun Belt Soccer semifinal in Morgantown. After a scoreless first half Marshall and West Virginia traded goals to go to extra time tied at 2 apiece.
In the second extra time period, West Virginia was called for a handball thirty seconds before the game was to be decided by penalty kicks. Marshall’s Joao Alves converted the penalty kick for the golden goal and Marshall wins 3-2.
The Herd will host UCF, which knocked off #1 seed Kentucky 1-0, for the Sun Belt Tournament championship Sunday.
Game time is 1:00 at Hoops Family Field.
