NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va . (WSAZ) - It has been five days since the Rolling Thunder Mine flooded, and crews have worked tirelessly to find the man trapped inside.

The mine is still full of water at this point, but Gov. Patrick Morrisey said this is still an active rescue mission.

“Right now, just let’s try to get as much of the water out so we can get the rescue crews working and expanding the search,” Morrisey said. “I think that’s the most critical thing and if there’s a good idea, we’re looking to implement it.”

To speed up the process, Morrisey said crews set up another pump.

As of Wednesday, Morrisey said the water level is going down about an inch every hour at a rate of 6,000 gallons per minute.

State Sen. Jack Woodrum, R-Summers, visited the site for the first time on Wednesday
