CHICAGO ( WGN ) — Civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson has been hospitalized, sources confirmed to WGN News on Wednesday evening.

Jackson, 84, was admitted to a local hospital by police escort in an effort to possibly manage what sources called a regular illness.

Jackson stepped down as leader of the Chicago civil rights organization Rainbow PUSH Coalition, which he founded in 1971, in 2023. Jackson has also faced various health setbacks in recent years.

WGN News has reached out to Rainbow PUSH Coalition for comment, but has not yet received a response as of this publication.
