US President Donald Trump signed the stopgap funding bill on Wednesday night to end the 43 days long government shutdown after both the houses of the Congress cleared the stalemate over government funding.
The House of Representatives passed the GOP-backed bill with a 222-209 vote in favour and extended the government funding until January. The shutdown saw thousands of federal workers go without paychecks and layoffs, furloughs, while travellers stranded at the airport due to air traffic controller shortages and people lining up at food banks to get a meal for their families among others.
The House lawmakers returned to the Congress after nearly eight weeks as Republicans
