Connecticut is taking a step forward when it comes to getting more affordable housing. A bill that would do that passed the House Wednesday evening in a special session.

“We can build the kind of housing that Connecticut needs, that our families need and I urge adoption,” Democratic majority leader Rep. Jason Rojas said.

“We’re passing more bureaucracy that’s not going to lead to a bit of affordable housing,” Republican minority leader Rep. Vincent Candelora said.

House Democrats and Republicans were locked in a seven-hour debate during Wednesday’s special session, arguing over a reworked bill addressing building affordable housing which passed on mostly party lines. Rojas said housing was his top priority.
