Doors will "slam closed" on the aspirations of young people if a new waterfront AFL stadium isn't built, a parliamentary debate on the divisive project has been told.

Construction of a roofed stadium at Macquarie Point in Hobart is a condition of the Tasmania Devils entering the AFL and AFLW in 2028.
