GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County School Board member Tina Certain plans to attend Thursday’s State Board of Education meeting following criticism over a social media post she made about Conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Certain’s attorney says she’s going voluntarily and it’s still unclear whether either of them will be given the chance to speak.
The controversy stems from a Facebook comment posted by Certain in September, referring to Conservative activist Charlie Kirk as a “31-year-old uneducated white boy who’s been glorified.”
Her attorney, Gary Edinger, sent a letter to the Florida Board of Education earlier this week, arguing her post is protected speech under the First Amendment and outside the board’s authority to investigate.
