AKRON, Ohio — An Akron man pleaded guilty to an involuntary manslaughter charge in connection with a shooting in which the victim died nine years later.
Summit County Common Pleas Court records show Damon’te Sherrod, 25, agreed to a plea deal Monday. Sherrod was scheduled to go to trial Wednesday for the 2016 shooting death of Mario Harris.
According to a news release from the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to a shooting on McKinley Avenue in Akron in 2016. Officers found Harris, then 19 years old, in the rear passenger seat of a stolen vehicle. He had a gunshot wound to the left side of his face. He was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say that prior to the shooting, Sherrod was driving the vehicle with several passengers in the car
