GLOUCESTER – The game wasn’t played on Thanksgiving.

And it lacked the intensity of most of the previous editions.

However, it’s still a crosstown rivalry and it means something within the Holy City limits.

After the game was in jeopardy of not being played at all this season, the Gloucester and Gloucester Catholic high school football teams renewed acquaintances for the 51 st time in their history on Wednesday night.

The evening belonged to the Lions, who roared to a 54-0 victory over the short-handed Rams in the final game for both squads.

Gloucester improved its lead in the all-time series to 26-24-1, a rivalry that began in 1948 but look a long hiatus from 1966-1992 when the two schools were in different conferences.

Don’t try to tell the players the game didn’t mean anything.
