What might have looked like Lili Granert just happening to be in the right place at the right time was anything but that.
It was all by design for the Ridgewood junior striker.
Reading the play in front of her and using her soccer IQ resulted in the biggest goal of Granert’s career.
With her eyes on a ball chipped deep into the box from up top, Granert had Montclair back Ella Overton behind her, who is one of the state’s top defenders. Overton attempted to clear it out to the side of the box, but Granert anticipated where her deflection was going to go and was able to get control of it.
With just a few yards between her and Montclair goalie Sophie Porter, Granert used a quick shot release with her left foot to get the ball past Porter on the near post to break what had been a scoreless
